The Impact of the Tsunami

Galle was devastated by the tsunami, with hundreds killed. The hotel was also very badly flooded (ask them to show you the video), but the structure remains safe and secure. However, many of the ground-floor rooms needed to be extensively refurbished. Your custom will therefore be much appreciated by the staff and their families as they seek to get back into business, as the loss of revenue from tourism in the months following the tsunami was severe.

The world-class beach has been  cleaned and debris removed to ensure that it is as beautiful now as it was before the tsunami hit, although the sea-bed remains littered with detritus from the tsunami, which is  steadily being cleared.

The Projects

Projects have included house reconstruction, refurbishment of essential buildings, teaching, helping out at local orphanages or elderly care homes, beach clearing and other  environmental work.

One of the major projects FTC are involved in is supporting a school for children displaced by the tsunami, which is run single handedly by a local women without any formal support.
