johannesburg
Start off with two nights in the hub of South Africa! Enjoy a tour
to see the main sights and to visit the famed and now historic
Soweto (South West Township)
Area. It was
here that resistance to apartheid was fiercest, and here that the
horror that was apartheid was most brutally illustrated.
makulu
makete
A
Game Reserve with a difference - and a haven for both animal and
bird species, and those who enjoy seeing them. With three distinct
types of habitat - mountain, riverline and savannah, Makulu Makete
is an ecological wonderland and a perfect place for anyone
interested in the natural world - from the serious ornithologists to
those who just love seeing nature as it is supposed to be.
The
work of the reserve is underpinned by a team of resident experts and
ecologists - who offer lectures and talks as part of your stay at
Makulu Makete. Here, guests are included in all aspects of managing
the reserve - what the management team call 'sustainable
conservation', giving you the unique opportunity of getting involved
with its day to day running, including working on projects such as
predator-tracking, (following the activities of animals which have
been released back into the wild as part of the predator
rehabilitation programme). You may prefer the more sedate option of
help the reserve to monitor migration patterns of various bird and
animal species by tracking, observing an noting them, or perhaps to
assist with the rehabilitation of the ‘veld’ (the aim is to
reintroduce native species of plants which have been forced out by
farming and other activities over recent years).
Regular game viewing drives are all an integral part of this amazing
experience, as are refreshing dips in the pool and swapping stories
around the campfire of an evening! You will also be offered to
option of taking part in a night game drive, giving you the chance
to see nocturnal species as well.
Your base throughout will be a luxurious tent with its own ensuite
facilities, and private balcony.

offered to experience the unique surroundings.
Kruger National Park

the best game viewing in Africa. From your base at a bush camp
